WELCOME TO AL FLOORS USA
American Cherry
Characteristics
-
Color:The heartwood is initially a light pinkish-brown to rich red, which deepens significantly over time to a rich, reddish-brown patina with a golden luster upon exposure to light (photosensitivity). The sapwood is a contrasting creamy white.
-
Grain:The grain is typically fine, straight, and uniform, giving it a smooth, satiny texture. Occasional natural characteristics like small gum pockets, brown pith flecks, or wavy/curly figures add visual interest.
-
Versatility:American Cherry is highly versatile for interior applications due to its excellent workability and aesthetic appeal. It is a top choice for fine furniture, cabinetry, architectural interior joinery, paneling, musical instruments, turnings, and high-end flooring in low-traffic areas. It is not recommended for outdoor use due to susceptibility to insects and moisture.
-
Hardness: It has a Janka hardness rating of approximately 950 lbf (pounds-force), placing it in the medium-density hardwood range. It is softer than Northern red oak or hard maple, but its good strength and shock resistance make it durable enough for many uses.
